Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a mental illness which causes people continue repetitive behaviours. People suffering from OCD continuously feel the urge to check things and perform the same tasks. Common examples are people who repeatedly check the door lock, repeatedly washing hands, counting of things etc. The exact cause of OCD is unknown, but it can result from genetic disorders, child abuse, stress-inducing events etc. OCD is more common in women than men. The symptoms of OCD start appearing from young adulthood. Stress can make the symptoms of OCD more intense and worse. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) has been widely used for treatment of OCD. The article provides insights into treatment of OCD by EFT.
WHO claims that OCD is one of the top 20 causes of illness-related disability globally. The symptoms of OCD mostly comprise of compulsive and obsessive behavior. People can have the fear of getting dirty, feel the need for things to be in a particular order, washing hands repeatedly, repeated checking of locked door, need to count things repeatedly etc. In some cases, the persons can also develop overvalued ideas.
Treating OCD by EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)
OCD can be treated by using different treatment therapies. EFT is commonly used as an alternative treatment therapy to completely resolve traumas that have led to OCD. EFT is based talking through the stressors and tapping on pressure points at the same time. OCD occurs due to the compulsive and traumatic memories and thoughts which leads to the OCD. These memories cause anxiety and OCD due to unresolved emotional issues. The biggest advantage of using EFT for treatment of OCD is that it address the root cause of the disorder. It attempts to resolve the memories which trigger responses leading to OCD.
EFT helps them to change their mindset and habits and ensure that the memories triggering OCD are resolved before the onset of such behavior. It helps to bring calmness and peace and restores the body back to a healthy balance.
