Stress is a state of physical, mental, and emotional strain or tension. Today’s busy and challenging lifestyle is the most important reason for increased stress levels among people. Stress is the body’s response to an external stimulus. It can have serious implications on the human body if ignored and left untreated. It can cause prolonged depression, sustained insomnia, increased blood sugar levels, weakened immune system, risk of heart attack, fertility problems, hypertension etc. According to a study conducted by the Australian Psychological Society (APS) in 2015, it was revealed that 35% of adult Australian population were living with significant stress. The top three reasons of stress in Australia was personal finance (49%), family issues (45%), and personal health (44%).
Some of the most common symptoms of stress include mood swings, becoming easily agitated, feeling of losing control, low self-esteem, low energy, headaches, body pains, insomnia, weakening of immune system, inability to focus, lack of judgment etc.
EFT is a popular alternative treatment therapy and it has shown positive results when used for treatment of stress. It is effective for managing and treating stress as it particularly targets amygdala and hippocampus, which are the specific brain parts that decide whether the situation is dangerous or negative. The therapy is known to reduce cortisol level in the body which is a stress-inducing hormone. This results in sending of calming signals to the amygdala- the part of the brain that decides the fight or flight response. EFT therapy helps the patients to address their mood and behavior problems effectively and allows the body to relax and react more calmly to stress-inducing stimulus from the external environment by resolving the core issues that have started the stress conditions in the first place.
EFT works by tapping pressure points and talking about the traumatic event at the same time to reduce the emotions and resolve the feelings towards it. Recent studies on the subject have revealed that EFT therapy sessions considerably improve the positive emotions in the patients and decreases negative thoughts which may trigger stress and anxiety. Regular tapping can bring in numerous physical and psychological benefits like increased circulation, better sleeping patterns, relaxed body muscles and bones, improvement in immune system, increased energy etc. These benefits keep the body calm and peaceful and help to alleviate stress.
