Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Tapping Techniques

Emotional Freedom Technique helps to identify core issues (that usually occur before the age of 7) and resolve the feelings around this. In the Emotional Freedom Technique acupressure points are tapped with fingertips while talking about the stress around the issues.

Tapping Techniques and Processes

The basic Emotional Freedom Technique to be followed for tapping are discussed below:

Identify the Problem

The first step before starting the tapping is to identify the problem to be treated. It is best to get really specific. It could be a recent event or something from when you were younger.

What is the Feeling and Rating?

What emotion are you feeling and rate it out of 10, 10 being the worst.

Remove Watch and Glasses

Glasses and watches interfere with the Emotional Freedom Technique process so it is best to remove them.

Setup Statement

The Emotional Freedom Technique starts with a set up statement and tapping on the karate chop point. “Even though……(insert your feelings here) I accept myself as much as I can.” This will acknowledge the problem which has to be addressed.

Tapping Effectively with the Fingertips

After completing the setup statement, the tapping process can begin. Tapping has to be done using fingertips. The acupressure points are tapped with the fingertips mostly using the three middle fingers. It can be done using either hand. The tapping points are located on either side of the body and tapping can be done from any side or both at the same time.

Tap Gently

Tapping should be done gently with the fingertips. Tapping should be done for 5-7 times on each of the tapping points. While tapping on each of the acupressure points then you need to say the emotion or how you are feeling. This brings these emotions to the forefront and the tapping will help release and resolve them.

Rate Your Emotions

Once you have done a few rounds, rate your emotion again. If you are above a 0 then continue to tap until you get to a 0. This means that the emotion towards that event is resolved. If you continue and you can’t get to a 0 it could be because we need to tap on each little part of the event to resolve a range of emotions or that you need help from a professional to find the core issue it is linked to.
