Signs of Stress

 

Introduction

Stress has sadly become common in everyday life. The instances of people experiencing stressful conditions is on the increase due to our ever changing and busy lifestyle. According to the study conducted by the Australian Psychological Society (APS), about 35% of the Australian adult population is subject to stress. 49% of them were stressed due to personal finance, 45% due to family issues, and 44% due to personal health. Persistent and prolonged stress can cause irreparable damage to the mind and body and should be treated immediately. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) has emerged as a popular alternative treatment therapy for treating stress.

Major Signs of Stress

Some of the major signs of stress are as follows:

 

Acne (sign of stress)

Acne is a very common manifestation of stress. Studies have established a strong correlation between stress levels and acne. Generally, when people are stressed, they touch their face more often which can result in acne.

Headaches and Chronic Pain (sign of stress)

Headaches have been linked to stressful conditions and events. In a study, it was revealed that stressful events led to developing chronic headaches in about 45% of the participants. Aches and chronic body pains are also related to stress. Studies have shown that increased level of stress hormone Cortisol, may be linked to chronic pains.

Regular Sickness (sign of stress)

Stress can lead to regular and frequent sickness. Stress is known to adversely affect and weaken the immune system of the body and increases the vulnerability of the body to various infections and diseases. In a study, the participants were injected with flu vaccine. Those experiencing higher levels of stress were found to have weakened immune response to the vaccine.

Decreased Energy and Insomnia (sign of stress)

Stress causes a decrease in body energy and insomnia. Stress generally disrupts sleeping patterns and sound sleep and leads to decreased body energy. Studies have found that fatigue is associated with higher stress levels. Another study established that people experiencing more stressful stimuli and conditions exhibited increased risk of insomnia.

Depression (sign of stress)

Continued depressions is a sign of stress. There are studies which find positive correlation between depression and stress. In a study conducted on 816 women participants suffering from severe depression, it was revealed that the onset of depression was linked with acute and chronic stress.

Treating Stress Through EFT Therapy

EFT therapy has produced positive results for treatment of stress. Stress is a result of the body’s response to a specific stimulus which results in a stressful condition. EFT therapy directly influences parts of the brain called the amygdala and hippocampus which decide whether a condition is stressful or not.  Using EFT therapy, the memories and feelings which trigger a stress response can be resolved and more positive emotions and feelings can be promoted. EFT therapy can bring a better and balanced flow of energy in the body and create a more calm and peaceful mental state which can effectively neutralize stress.
