Tapping for Anxiety

Introduction

Brief levels of anxiety are normal in humans as it alerts the body to certain conditions and helps to perform better in stressful conditions. However, persistent or permanent anxiety is a problem as it negatively impacts the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of individuals. Anxiety is becoming a common phenomenon due to the fast and hectic lifestyle. People are being subjected to stressful conditions and stimuli with greater frequency than earlier. Approximately 26% of the Australian population has experienced anxiety once in their lifetime while 14% of the population are likely to have experienced anxiety disorders. Treating anxiety is important as if untreated, it can lead to other serious mental disorders. The article explores the effectiveness of tapping for anxiety as an effective treatment to resolve this issue.

Chronic Anxiety

When we experience anxiety for prolonged time periods and on a persistent basis, our brains become use to anxiety. This results in the increase of anxiety where it rises to dangerous levels. This is called chronic anxiety, an intense form of anxiety where people look out for potential threats and anxiety-triggering stimuli where none exists. Some people become used to anxiety and accept it as normal. They do not realize something is wrong and become patients of chronic anxiety. This can also lead to other dangerous mental disorders like depression.

Tapping for Anxiety – Treatment

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a very effective therapy in resolving issues surrounding the anxiety so therefore tapping for anxiety is stand out treatment. Tapping for anxiety identifies the memories which trigger this outcome in patients. The patients may not be completely aware of these memories as they are embedded deep in the subconscious mind. After identifying these stimuli triggering anxiety, tapping for anxiety works towards addressing them. Tapping for anxiety focuses on resolving negative memories and thoughts in the human body and developing positive emotions which is very important for reducing anxiety.

Tapping for anxiety is an effective therapy for treating anxiety as it directly targets the parts of the brain called the amygdala and hippocampus. These are parts of the brain which decide if any condition or stimuli is a threat or not and then the body prepares its response accordingly. By tapping for anxiety, these parts of the brain can process stimuli more rationally and this leads to improved coping mechanisms and better response to stressful conditions by the body. Tapping for anxiety is also known to reduce the cortisol levels in the body which is hormone triggering stress. Tapping for anxiety can be used for any age group for treatment of anxiety and other related mental disorders.
