I’m a mother and a teacher and I completely understand the stresses of both roles. At times stress and anxiety has effected me and because it effected me it also effected my family. I could see this stress filter out to my students too.
I had seen a psychologist for several years about various stresses and had spent thousands of dollars to come out still feeling like my stressors were there. I felt a little better after talking but it didn’t make sense to me to leave a psychologist still upset and only having ways to ‘handle’ my stresses not ‘resolve’ them. I knew I would be back the next week doing and feeling the same thing.
I started searching for something to help. I completed some mindfulness courses but being mindful was only a short term alternative. I knew there had to be something else to help my students and my family. My search was taken up a notch when my son’s anxiety became worse after his biological mum tragically and unexpectedly passed in September 2017. I wouldn’t normally share something so personal but I believe it’s important for you to understand where I am coming from and how important I feel that EFT is to share with everyone so that we can resolve our issues and live calmer and happier lives.
So I was on a mission to find something to help my son (and myself because I knew I needed to work on myself to be the best mum and human I could be and lead by example). I studied many modalities and used them with my family with good short term results but it never resolved our issues. The triggers were still there. This meant that if something came up that was a similar event or pattern as to the original trigger I noticed how it was still an issue for us and would set off our stress.
I stumbled upon EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or tapping) and after one session I had completely resolved a couple of issues that had been causing me pain and trauma. What I mean is that when I thought about them I literally had no emotion towards it. It was now just a memory and it didn’t continue to traumatize me like it had done for years.
Since then I have been able to tap with my sons who love it because they say “it makes me feel good.” We tap to help them sleep, things they’re scared of, painful memories, nightmares, belly ache, things that have happened at school….the list goes on. Before my eyes my children are developing into calmer, confident and more resilient young people. The more we tap the better we feel.
By working on myself I’ve been able to resolve my own stresses but also be a calmer, well rested and present mum for my boys and get more out of my day without the exhaustion of stressing about what little time I have and how much I have to do.
It is for many of these reasons and more that I specialize in working with families, children and teachers.
